Density: Very similar to wood
Surface Properties: Closed cell, transmits no water or water vapor. Smooth surface.
Moisture Resistance: Excellent.
Finishing: Any good quality latex paint (avoid dark colors).
Machining and Joints: Works with all conventional woodworking equipment: saws and routs exceptionally well. Use PVC cement for welded joints.
Benefits: Low cost alternative to conventional pine trim. Comes in a variety of widths from 3” to 48” and in 3/4” and 5/4” thickness, all by 18 ft. lengths. Takes nails or screws very well. The brand of PVC board we carry, TrimTec 5, is very uniform in density and dimension, far better than any of the competition. No puckering at the fasteners. No voids in the material. If you’re still using pine or wood facia, soffits, corner boards or water table you should really consider using PVC. This is the ideal exterior flat trim. A small number of crown molding and window casing (908 case) profiles are available.
Negatives: Long lengths are difficult to handle. Material is somewhat heavy. Large, floppy pieces sometimes require two workers to handle. Not recommended for use when painted dark colors.
